So you have are thinking or have signed up to your FIRST triathlon. Good for you !!
To guarantee a fun and enjoyable race we have put together and training plan as a guide line to help you get started. There will be a next phase training plan leading up to race day to follow. Don’t worry if you miss the odd session at this stage aim to complete at least 4/5 sessions a week as a minimum. You will thank us in the end when you are at the start line … that I promise you!
This is a guide line as everyone has a strength in one area for sure but its is key to develop all 3 disciples so you don’t get an injury and you cross that line saying ‘Wow, that was fun, I want to do another one!!’
Some helpful tips to begin with:
Gym sign up – make use of that expensive monthly membership
Sign up to your local gym and get an Instructor to write you a core strength and conditioning program. If you can squeeze this in at least once a week as well as the plan this is a real bonus. Pilates is another good conditioning session and doesn’t involve the high intensity of the cardio work that you would see in the disciples but Core work is Essential!!
Most athletes forget that core strength is key to technique and endurance so make sure you are a strong athlete.
Plus all of the work in the plan below you can do in the comfort of the gym on a treadmill or spin bike.
Join a local Athletes / Run or Triathlon Club
Google it or ask at your gym or swim baths. Training and making friends makes easy and fun training. A club offers technique, wealth of experience in events, variation in training and motivation when it’s a cold wet day.
